Prayer is a powerful weapon for the believer. If we understand what prayer is and how it works, it can be a great source of help and comfort for us. Prayer requires trust not only in God but also in His ability to meet our requests. Yet, when we practice prayer, we learn to trust that He loves us and will answer our prayers because He has promised to do so.
Prayer can change your life and the lives of those around you. Prayer is essential to the life and growth of a believer.
How do you pray?
Determine what method of prayer brings the greatest results. Prayer done in faith yields results much faster than that done inconsistently or with doubt. It may be tempting to give up on some prayers, especially if they have been unanswered for a long time.
James 1:6-8 shows us that perseverance is needed when we pray. If we can have patience, God will answer our prayers: "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, tossed about by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord."

Prayer can also provide comfort.
Knowing God will hear and respond to your prayers can be a source of comfort during difficult times of life.
Mark 10:16 proclaims that "no one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for his friends." Psalm 34:17-20 encourages a person to not be afraid, for the Lord is near their side. Isaiah 41:10 encourages people in the midst of difficulty to not fear because God is with them.
Jesus' death on the cross was sufficient redemption payment for man and provided atonement for all of our sins (1 John 2:2).
No matter the circumstance - be it an addiction, disease, mental illness or anything else - prayer gives hope that our needs are being met by God, who has already made payment.
